Married Student Housing: The Space Race

We're going into our second year living in student housing, which to some people is kinda a big deal. Branson and I are pretty simple people when it comes down to it. Sure, we like to talk about the amazing things we'd do if we miraculously won a million dollars, but at the end of the day our humble little apartment has a special place in our hearts. Family members have encouraged us to move into a home here in the city, which we could afford if we wanted to. While we can't wait to move into our own home, mow the lawn, paint the kitchen, etc, we are truly blessed to live where we do. I wouldn't 'trade up' in a million years.

Obviously there are downfalls to living in a small space, such as lack of storage. It's an ongoing battle we seem to always be fighting. Luckily we are learning to make the most of our space. Due to clutter, and OCD issues from a certain individual we won't name, (Branson, I'm looking at you) our bedroom organization ranked nonexistent, which caused a lot of unnecessary stress. Over the weekend I decided I was going to reorganize my bedroom with items we already have. Being in college means we stick to a budget. If I can create a better, more organized space for free, you bet your lovely faces I'm going to take that opportunity and ride with it.

Lets start with my side of the closet. Originally our closet was a mash up of all our things, which often led getting dressed in the morning to be a more tedious task than it needed to be. (I should note that after completing this project, Branson officially has more clothes than me. I do, however, outrank him in number of shoes...I'll take it.)

From left to right, I have my jeans, then onto sleep shirts, and then onto sweaters. You can't forget the Trixin hat that I am loving right now! My hanging clothing follows an organization pattern of dresses, skirts, jackets, cardigans, dress shirts, and tee shirts.

We only have a small yellow dresser in our room, so fitting all those little extras is difficult. This sat in our closet before, kinda like a junk drawer. I decided to use it to store my swim suits/coverups, work out clothes, and all my tank tops.

Below is Branson's side of the closet. His jeans are also folded on the top shelf. The yellow floral box is actually a cardboard box we had leftover from a case lot sale at our local grocery store. I used my glue gun and leftover fabric to create a new, bright home for all our hoodies.

I really enjoy the feel of our room. There's something wonderful about opening your closet doors and knowing there is an exact place for everything! Not to mention it was free! I do have a large cardboard box in my sewing room filled with clothing and shoes that I needed to purge to make this new organization system work for us. I see no reason living in a college married student (or single student, for that matter), should deter you from having an organized space.

How do you like to organize?

Today I am grateful for...text book buy backs! Granted it's a fraction of what we paid for said text books, but you should be grateful for anything you get back, am I right?
