If you've been on Pinterest lately, you've probably seen an influx of all things pompom. Since the moment my beady little eyes saw this trend, I was obsessed! Everything I'm creating is starting to always end with 'and then I'll add pompoms!' Guys. This addiction is real! The only real problem is the ball fringe can be pretty pricey. For example, this yellow ball fringe is amazing, but I'm not willing to pay that much for a whole bundle. Nor am I willing to find out how much it costs for just one yard.
So I made my own, which took some time, but oddly enough the work was relaxing. I simply rolled my yarn around two fingers and tied it tightly, cutting away at the loops until I ended up with a little ball of fuzz. Simple, and effective!
Once I had my pompoms I needed something for them to be attached to. A bedspread? Not today. Curtains? Oh, how I wish! No, today I used them to outline a pillow I was working on for my living room.
Pillow Instructions
1. For my pillow I used a large rectangle piece of fabric I had hidden in my fabric stash. It measured out to be 20''(W) X 50'' (L). If you want to make your own you can, or you can use a pillow that you already own.
2. Iron out your fabric, trying to remove as many wrinkles as possible.
3. Fold fabric in half so the measurements are 10'' X 50''. Pin ONE short end and the LONG end only.
4. Straight stitch all the way around your two pinned sides. Once sewn, press your seams open, and then get to stuffing that bad boy! I used the stuffing from the two black pillows in the picture above.
5. Once you've come to a place where you like your pillow--I like mine supportive but still soft--stitch up the last end. It's okay that the seam will be showing. You're gonna cover it in pompoms anyway.
6. Align your pompoms around the pillow, gauging how far apart you want them spaced. I tried spacing them far apart, and close together, and I ended up choosing to put them closer together.
7. Hand stitch your pompoms onto your pillow and you're done. I'm sure you could also glue them on, but they probably won't last after awhile.
That's all she wrote! I hope you enjoyed this little project!
Today I'm grateful for...free projects! Recycle your stuff you guys!
