Rainy Days and Floral Prints

One minute there is snow, then rain, then the skies open up and the most beautiful blue peaks out from behind the gray clouds. I should say all of that happens in one minute. It really did. I am loving the crazy weather, even if it is unreasonably cold.

1. A few months back, I made this shirt for an outing with some friends. It didn't fit the way I wished, so it mostly stayed in the back of my closet. I did wear it in this tutorial. You know where this is going.

2. Flip this beauty inside out, cut the sleeves away from the rest of the shirt like so.

3. Grab a piece of elastic. I measured mine around my waist, enough that it would be slightly smaller than my waist, yet leaving enough stretch that it wouldn't give me a muffin top (man, muffins sound good).

4. Roll the top of the raw edge over enough that it will encase your elastic, pin in place and stitch.

5. Cut a small slit, just big enough for your elastic to fit through, on the inside of the skirt.

6. Using a safety pin, I linked it through one of the elastic ends. This will help pull it through our casing.

7. Start pulling the elastic through. Make sure you keep the elastic as flat as possible the whole time. Otherwise, it won't sit well on you when it's finished.

8. When you've fed almost all the elastic through, leave about 1 inch out, and pin it in place. If you were to keep pulling the elastic through, it would become a lost little thing, and you'd most likely have to start over again.

9. Now you have the safety pin out from the same slit your created earlier. Pin the safety pin end down to the skirt like you did on the opposite side. Remove the safety pin, and pin the elastic together. Sew in place, and tuck into the slit. Sew up the slit.

10. Remember this? The fairy godmother had so much left over, she gave me some to use. Isn't she great? Pin around the bottom of the skirt, and sew in place. And that's it!
