I accomplished THREE projects yesterday. Proud you must be of me, eh? (Did that almost step over into Yoda land? My husband is wearing off on me more than I thought).
My mom had this nasty floral night gown that she never wore. Ever. And it just sat in a pile of clothes for years and years. I am not a big flowers kinda person, and the print was a little too much for me when I was younger, but now I think that it's perfect to confront it and make it my own. So I did.
Lets face it: she was a nightmare. However, I saw potential. I was worried the sheer fabric would be really hard to sew, but it was actually a dream. I loved it!
I snipped off the shiny boobies portion. But then I noticed that my fabric was a little too see through and I didn't have a slip or elastic to hold the skirt up. I was bound and determined to finish this tonight and not have to go out and spend a single dime on this project. Guess what? My persistence paid off!
These are a pair of sweatpants/leggings/comfy comfy comfy cotton.
Then I pinned them together and sewed a straight stitch and then a zig zag stitch to keep it from fraying.
I should have mentioned before that the reason I picked the pants was because it had a two inch thick top, which would get rid of my need for elastic, and make the finishing edge look cleaner. Heck yeah for midnight brain power!
Here is the picture of what I started doing, and then stopped because I realized how kind...dumb it was. I didn't want to see the stitch combining the new black skirt with the floral print. So I unpinned the whole thing (and a few choice words at my own stupidity followed), and pinned right sides together so the black portion was right side out, and the floral was surrounding the black, inside out....lost yet?
Sorry. Once you've sewn it, you flip the floral over and both the black skirt portion, and the floral skirt are right sides out like shown below.
See! No stitch lines just a pretty black edge for a nice floral pattern.
This is my finished project! So much better than that nasty nightgown.
