Geometric Ruffle Dress

When I look at this picture for more than a few seconds my eyes start to hurt. I've had my eye on this fabric for well over six months now, and every time I've always thought, "Oh, I'll get it next time." Well, next time came and went and I finally decided to bit the bullet. The fabric itself is breezy, but thick enough I don't have to wear layers underneath it to keep myself covered. Basically it's the perfect summer dress.

I started by setting up my fabric. I believe this is 1.5 yards. The fabric is folded (hotdog style) to the center, and the edges almost touch.

Then I used my trusty dress and created my pattern.

In the end I had 2 dress pieces, two sleeves, two neckline pieces, and the fabric for the ruffle.

First on the agenda was to attach the neckline pieces to the front and back necklines.

Then I went ahead and sewed at the shoulders, sewed the sides, and added the sleeves. Following that I decided to actually make it more fit and flare (not pictured). Once that was completed, I added my ruffle piece. Originally I intended for there to be a long ruffle, but after I put the dress on the look didn't sit well with me, so I chopped it down.

And that's all she wrote!

Today I'm grateful for...blind faith, and pushing boundaries.
