Finally! I feel as if I've had to neglect this challenge due to our very limited budget. This doesn't mean I've given up. It unfortunately means I have to be very selective and picky about what I decide to make, and that really grinds my gears.
I originally bought the striped dress online from Rue 21. I loved the asymmetrical aspect, but the dress as a whole lacked appeal. So I snipped here and there, added some gorgeous fabric and a fun pop of color. Plus there is an abundance of pattern mixing, something I feel very strongly about. If you can...do it!
Snip, snip.
Unpick the neckline.
Cut down the center of the back.
Measure the length of your strips.
Pin them together, and sew in place. I used three total.
Sew them to your striped piece.

Once you've got the top part sewn and finished, that includes finishing the neckline, you can make the bottom of your skirt. I ordered fabric from Fabric.com and it's a lightweight jersey. It's so comfortable!
I created a 'tube' that measured slightly bigger than my waist, sewed it with a straight stitch, finished off all the ends, and then I attached it to the top piece. Hem the bottom of your skirt, if so desired, and that's all she wrote!
Today I am grateful for...American independence. We often take it for granted, but I can't imagine living without them. I'm proud to be an American, and I'm proud to be free. Happy Independence Day everyone!
