I've always been a big fan of new technology. Sure, sometimes there are items that make me scratch my head a little, but overall I enjoy seeing what we can create. What I don't love about technology is all the little extras that come along with owning those things. For example: headphones (a.k.a. a tangled web we weaved), chargers, memory cards, and remotes. Growing up my family constantly lost the remote or the telephone. I'd like to think that over the years I've become fairly sensible about keeping things in a rightful place, which means my remote is never lost. However, since the hustle and bustle of the holidays has officially died off, there is something lurking in my living room.
A missing remote.
Ah! It drives me nuts! Of course I've found it, but, as usual, it wasn't remotely close to where it's supposed to be (haha get it?). We could blame it on the fact that our remote is black and both our sofas are black. Nah.
Time to cure the ridiculous remote crisis. Normally I have a wicker basket sitting across the coffee table with our tv guide for guests, a little game, and our remotes. My honest opinion...it served its purpose and had a new one anxiously awaiting. The removal of said basket meant that those previously mentioned items were now homeless. The game and tv guide found a new view overlooking the living room and kitchen from the top of the DVD cabinet. The basket now keeps my flour and sugar containers off my kitchen counters (limited space), and those darn remotes are the last things to go.
Off to the sewing block! HA!
I grabbed this gray suede fabric and this red floral fabric that matches our throw pillows. Put that all together and what does that spell...er...sew?
This!!
(Yes, I am playing the PS3 in the background. That's wassup!)
In my Narnia fabric stash, I had long strips of this fabric:
I laid it over the arm of my futon, and I used the pin to measure where the fabric falls over the arm rest to the floor.
With my 'pocket' fabric I cut out a section that would, obviously, end up as the pocket. I didn't measure but I think I left two inches or so around.
Hem the top of the pocket where it will open up. I rolled my fabric over twice, pinned in place, and stitched it straight.
Following the hemming on the top section, I rolled my fabric under and pinned around the entire enchilada. ha! Then you'll sew from one side to the other, making sure to leave the top open! I almost stitched it closed...which would have been a mini meltdown over here.
Press everything flat with your iron, and you're done!
Today I am grateful for...my clean apartment. There's something relaxing about having a clean home.
