The Gray Lady

If you've been around awhile, you might have seen a pants-to-skirt refashion on corduroy pants. (If you haven't, check it out right here). After I made the corduroy skirt, I wanted to make a new one using a few new tricks I'd learned stalking other sewing blogs. When I remembered these pants in my fabric storage, it felt like a large iridescent light bulb  exploded above my head.

Turning the pants inside out, I clipped away the seam that ran along the inner portion of the legs. (You should probably unpick the seam, but because these pants are so big on me I simply clipped right next to the seam to remove it, and open up the legs).

You're now looking at the side of your pants (above). Mark with chalk (not pictured) so you can cut off those silly curve marks on the right and left sides. Pin those sides together, and stitch it together.

At this point it was time to try the skirt on and decide how long this bad boy needed to be. I chose knee length since winter is getting ready to descend upon us. (Pray for my patience to not kill my husband while he complains about the snow).

It should look a little something like this. Your new seams you just finished sewing are now going to go in the front and back of your skirt. Press them flat with your iron, and then finish off the raw edges with a serger or a zig-zag stitch.

Now onto hemming! I chose to fold the skirt bottom up roughly an inch, and pressed it down the entire way around. Once that task found completion, I folded that piece over, pressed it flat, and pinned it in place. Stitch that puppy down, press away any wrinkles, and you're done!

*Today Branson (changing it up today) is grateful for...his job, his wife, and his family.
