I love weekends more than any other time of the week. Doesn't everyone? I usually have a lot more free time on my hands on the weekend so that means I can create all sorts of projects.
Recently Branson and I found out we would be moving to a new city to start school months earlier than we thought! Of course, we are incredibly grateful and excited. I can't even begin to tell you how excited we are. I'm not nervous to move. I think it will be good for us, but I do however feel a little nervous. Why? I have no idea how I'm going to decorate! It is a stupid reason, but it is seriously making me anxious. I probably drive my family crazy with my pacing. But I just have such a creative spirit. I HAVE to have it look just the way I want. I'm just crazy, eh?
So I dragged Branson (he's such a good sport), and came home with a new little piece to add to our adventure!
Supplies:
1/2 yard of fabric (you could also use paper, and the amount of fabric depends on the size of your tray. Choose accordingly.)
A tray (I picked mine up from Hobby Lobby for 5 bucks.)
Paint/Paintbrushes
Modge Podge
and Music people. I work better with music.
I love doing projects with Branson, because we always pick out the best stuff. We have pretty good taste in our opinion. He helped me pick the fabric and he chose the green. Little smarty pants.
I covered the tray with three coats of the 'Olive Green' paint on the outside and inside edges. The bottom I only painted twice, and you don't even have to do that. You can leave it unpainted. I just felt like going the extra step.
Next, lay out your fabric and measure your tray on the inside where you will be placing the fabric. My measurements were 14 X 10 1/4. Cut your fabric.
Lay your fabric on the inside and make sure it fits. If you missed up on the cutting, like I did, you can cut a new piece, but I kind of like the thought of it being imperfect. And you can't tell unless you look really hard. So pretend you look and keep scrolling, okay?
I then grabbed my modge podge and glued a strip along the tray, and pressed my fabric to it. I only worked in small amounts at a time, and it worked out really well. Make sure you press it down really good and that there are no bubbles.
After you have pressed the entire piece down, let it dry. I worked on my project on my patio, and let it sit in the sun so the glue would dry faster. Then I coated the top of the fabric with modge podge, as shown above. After that dried, I covered the areas I painted green with more of the good stuff and let that dry as well. The modge podge smoothed the wood out and made it feel nicer to hold.
Ta-Da! Now you can put cute stuff on it, like I did, and that's it!
