Bright Lights and Glue Guns

Today I spent about two hours playing Killer Bunnies. If you don't know what it is, Google it. It is the best party game to play, but Branson and I play just the two of us and we slaughter each other. Great game to play when you're fighting, eh? Anyway, while we were playing I took an extra notice to the lamp that sits above my computer. Branson and I picked it out and ordered it after we were married from Target. You just gotta love that place right? It is my Las Vegas. I always leave with an empty wallet. However, this lamp was plain and white. Not having it. So I used some of the old fabric from my little clutch that I made, and recovered the thing. Now I have a romantic looking lamp that will go perfectly in our living room when we get into our own place.

Here's how I did it:

I took my leftover fabric and trimmed off the left side because I wanted a nice even rectangle to work with. I wouldn't suggest letting your cat help, but Sasha is sassy and wouldn't move. At least she held down the board, eh?

From the large rectangles, I made two rectangle that would wrap around my lamp shade perfectly. The larger rectangle is 10 X 27, and the smaller rectangle is 10 X 18.

I used my presser foot as a guide and stitched the sides together. Then I opened the sides and pressed them flat.

After I pressed the seams open, I pulled my fabric around my lamp shade as snug as I could get it, and I pinned the two loose ends to the actual lamp shade. Then I trimmed off 1/4 of an inch from the bottom and grabbed my glue gun!

I only put the glue on about 2 inch squirts at a time. Then I rolled and pressed the fabric over the wire you see at the bottom. I probably had 50% of the glue on my fingers, but my glue gun isn't one that gets super hot, so I didn't mind it so much. I did this all along the bottom, gluing, pulling and pressing. Over and over like a record on repeat.

On the section with the loose ends, I glued the bottom piece down, then folded the top piece so there would be a smooth edge, and glued that down. I have no intentions of showing that portion of the lamp anyway, because I placed it right over the seam that was already on the lampshade.  Sorry I didn't take a picture for this step.

This is my new favorite piece of furniture. I will never love something more than I do this lamp. It just looks romantic and it's exactly what I wanted for our living room. It even has the husband's approval, and he is picky, picky, picky.

Happy Sewing!
