Monthly Sewing Series: April

The butterfly dress. When I was a little girl I had a butterfly dress that I would wear nonstop, As I’ve gotten older I’ve kept an eye out for butterfly fabric that I really liked, not necessarily to replicate it, but to have another butterfly dress in my wardrobe. The prettiest butterfly fabric I had seen in a long time popped up in my late night scrolling, and I had to buy it. So many ideas filtered through my mind as to what I should do with the fabric. Then I saw this dress from Merrick’s Art and I knew I wanted to recreate this in some way.

Making the dress was simple enough. I used a dress I already owned to make my pattern, and a cup to make the scallops. But when I finished and put the dress on I hated it. I immediately took it off and went and had a good cry in the shower haha. Something about it looked shapeless and boring. I was gutted.

Then after a little Pinterest browsing I came upon an off the shoulder top that was so cute and it hit me: that was the dress’ salvation! A quick cut, a little ironing and some elastic later and I give you the finished product!

I feel like this dress will be perfect for the warmer months ahead, especially over a swimsuit or on a date with my hubby.
