Simple Sleeve Alteration

I finally broke down. For weeks I tried to tell myself I could hold off. You guys should have told me I was fooling myself. Not that I blame you. But for real: you could have said something. So I unpacked my sewing box, found myself a few supplies, and I went to town on a shirt alteration. You're welcome.

Grandma gave me the shirt below. I absolutely love the flower detail because it's not over powering. Those sleeves fell at an awkward place on my long arms. They needed an uplift.

To start off the alteration, I folded my shirt in half, lining the sleeves up as close to perfect as possible. Then I marked where I wanted the new sleeve length to end, and I cut straight across.

Once I had the bottom portion chopped off, I removed the bottom hem and decided to reuse it for the new hem. I pinned all the way around, right sides together, slightly stretching the smaller piece as I went.

Now, you all know my machine is in the intensive care unit that is a cardboard box. I seem to forget this fact when I start snipping away at these projects. Sometimes you just have to let inspiration sweep you off your feet. I ended up sewing them together by hand. If you are using a sewing machine (lucky you), then you would simply sew around with the machine instead, making sure to finish off the raw edge. To be honest, I think it turned out great!
