I'm Calling to Spring

Every morning I get up, throw on my robe, eat breakfast, and contemplate what I'm going to do with my day. A part of my brain thinks about going to the pool, or going for a walk. Then I remember Utah still looks like this:

It's discouraging to say the least. I am pretty much fed up with snow. In honor of those beloved spring and summer months coming right around the corner, I thought I'd make a new top to brighten this gloomy winter scene.

I picked this awesome floral fabric from my new favorite website, here

Using this top as my guide (yes, it's a pajama top, which is SO comfortable. You can find it here.), I cut out my shape, adding 1/2 inch for seam allowance. I also rounded my corners.

I pinned the top of the shirt together like this, and stitched straight across. You're probably wondering why I'm sewing where my neck should go, but you'll see why soon.

After I sewed the top together, I hemmed the bottom of my shirt. After that, I stitched the sides together, using about 1/2 in seam allowance. Make sure you zig zag or serge your loose edges.

I folded the shirt in half, matching up all the points. Then I took a piece of paper, folded it in half, and drew a half crescent shape. This I then cut out and placed near the fold of the top.

I unfolded the shirt, along with the paper pinned to the fabric. Then to make sure I had an even neckline, I measured across the top, divided that in half, and then measured where I wanted the outer sides to start. Then I cut it out, rolled the hem over twice, making a tiny hem, and stitched it into place.

Following that step, I pondered on how I wanted to do the sleeves. I decided I was just going to hem the sleeves as they were, leaving the piece open for all seasons. It would be great for layering, or just as is. So I rolled the edges over twice, and stitched it in place. Press your top and you're done!

Adding a red leather jacket never hurt either.

It almost makes me forget it's snowing outside!
