After I delighted in sharing with you some of my favorite books I had ever read, I sat down and put together a list of novels that I wish to read. Now, this list probably will expand, but for right now I am only choosing books in my bookshelf that I have never sniffed the pages (a.k.a I've never read, obviously)) if you haven't sniffed book pages, you're lying). So here are 12 books I plan on reading through the fall and the winter.
1. 'Wuthering Heights' by Emily Bronte':
I watched the movie before reading the book. I think I set myself up for failure with this one, but since Emily is Bronte, I can't exclude her completely. I'll give it a go, and hopefully the book with make more sense.
2. 'Mr. Midshipman Hornblower' by C.S. Forester:
I had a teacher in high school recommend this novel. I bought it, but it has since sat gathering dust on my shelf. Time to see if he was correct or mistaken.
3. 'North and South' by Elizabeth Gaskell:
This is one of my favorite movies. Richard Armitage plays the leading male, and of course, I can't refuse him. How could anyone?
4. 'The Last of the Mochicans' by James Fenimore Cooper:
This is another recommendation, this time from a fellow student. He claims it is one of the best novels around, so I will give it a go, eh?
5. 'Gone With the Wind' by Margaret Mitchell:
I tried reading this once, and I got about 10 pages in and lost interest. But I am a die hard fan of the movie (Clark Gable? Be still by beating heart).
6. 'Alfred and Emily' by Doris Lessing:
I have no clue what this is about. In all honestly it looks like an easy quick read. Guess I'm going to find out.
7. 'Mansfield Park' by Jane Austen:
Another beloved movie favorite of mine. I can't resist a good love story, you guys. I'm whipped.
8. Pharmakon' by Dirk Wittenborn:
I tried reading this once for a book report. After three chapters, I couldn't remember what I had read. Obviously not an attention grabber, but I am willing to trench through one more time. After that I'm giving it to Branson and hopefully he can make sense of it.
9. 'The Count of Monte' Cristo' by Alexandre Dumas:
I have the unabridged version. In high school we read the abridged version. I have to read the full length of the novel, or else I feel I've been cheated of a good deal of information.
10. 'A River Runs Through It' by Norman Maclean:
My Dad loves this movie. Maybe because he is a lover of all things nature and fishing. It's only fair that I throw this into the mix for him.
11. 'City of Tranquil Light' by Bo Caldwell:
Branson received this novel from his Nana and Opa. He hasn't read it yet, so I am going to! He can have Pharmakon and I can have City of Tranquil Light. Even trade right?
12. 'Hood' by Stephen R. Lawhead:
My younger brother told me I had to read this book, and the two that follow. So seeing as he lent this to me, I will probably read it after Wuthering Heights. I don't like to borrow a book for too long.
